See a different side of Port Stephens
If you are living or visiting Port Stephens and would like to learn how to SUP, hire a board, take a kayaking tour or paddle your own for a couple of hours, then you can easily do all of these in the Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay area. Book your spot online or call to arrange a time, then get out on the water on your own or with your family and friends. It is a relaxing, holiday experience that everyone will enjoy!
The waters of Port Stephens are particularly clear with bright white sand underneath, so it makes you feel like you are gliding through the waters of the Whitsunday Islands. It is also a Marine Sanctuary, so you can spot a wide range of marine animals right from your board. Why don't you hire a SUP and get out on the water this weekend?

Shoal Bay is an ideal place to kayak and SUP, as the water around the bay is less than 10 metres deep and often just 3-5 metres in some areas - so you can look down and see the water grasses and range of fish underneath your board. Port Stephens also has its own Bottlenose Dolphin population, so you may meet some of these friendly locals as you cruise around. The good part about paddling in the bay is that it rarely has any kind of current, so you can easily paddle along without too much effort (wind permitting!).
Port Stephens Paddlesports offers a wide range of activities and equipment hire from their office on the Shoal Bay foreshore. Hire a kayak, SUP, Catamaran-Style Paddleboard or Mothership SUP. If you would prefer to do a tour and learn about the area, then check out their tours which explore the coastline within Port Stephens. See here for details.
Shoal Bay SUP also offer a fantastic service to locals and tourists, setting off from the pristine waters of Shoal Bay. They have Crystal Clear Kayaks, SUP and Pedalboards, lessons and tours. They offer a range of options and time slots to suit all families. See here for details.

Port Stephens Surf School have private and group SUP lessons throughout the year and you can also hire them at Dutchmans Beach in summer. Check their website for their current lessons and equipment hire, as their services change seasonally. See here for details. Another alternative is to catch the ferry from Nelson Bay over to Hawks Nest and hire a kayak or SUP over on the other side from Ezy Kayaks or Lazy Paddles, which are both located a short walk from the ferry.
Wherever you go, you are sure to love gliding through the clear waters of Port Stephens and seeing dolphins, turtles and wildlife in the water around you. Enjoy the experience!
