Sunshine's Hampshire Road comes alive on Sunday 23 September 2018 from 10am to 8pm with a Lantern Festival, celebrating the full moon. That's a whole 10 hours of family fun to be had at a festival that boasts over 55 thousand visitors each year. A very South-East Asian event, it draws crowds to enjoy the day as a community and support the local businesses of Sunshine. One of the biggest one-day Fests in the west, welcome to the largest Lantern Festival in Victoria. If you live in the area, make sure your pets are indoors between 7.30pm and 7.45pm when the spectacular fireworks go off.
Please note, the bustling Hampshire Road, between Devonshire Road and Hertford Road will be closed to all traffic. It'll instead be filled with roving street performers, entertainment, children's rides, jumping castles, pony rides, market stalls, international street food, face-painting, lantern making, a lantern parade, and more. Meanwhile, a large performance stage will be showcasing local multicultural live entertainment in front of Sunshine Plaza. Later in the day, watch out for the magical Lion and Dragon Dancing complete with a long string of fireworks along the Hampshire Rd shopfronts, leading a parade of children and their families.
This free cultural community event is presented by the Sunshine Business Association, supported by Brimbank City Council,Multicultural Victoria, and many other local businesses. There'll be a lot of Wild Action when Frankie the koala and his mates come to visit on the day. Chris Humphrey adrenaline junkie, action man and animal whisperer will be on stage to educate and showcase his animals. He'll be on stage from 11am to 4pm, so look forward to his energy and charisma people! If you happen to see one of the mascots running around, try taking a selfie with the giraffe. Is it going to be a selfie of all head or all legs? Work it out at the Festival!
