A blooming good time
Celebrate the onset of Spring at the Sunshine Coast Wildflower Festival - Image: www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
Much to my delight it's once again time for the annual
Sunshine Coast Wildflower Festival , signifying the celebration of the wondrous display of wildflowers we have on the Sunshine Coast. Since the Wildflower Festival's humble beginnings in 1967, this Festival has grown and a huge thanks should be directed to the support and enthusiasm of local community groups, who host the fascinating outdoor activities.
The Sunshine Coast Wildflower Festival provides public guided walks and activities across the Sunshine Coast region, from Bribie Island to Noosa National Park. Keen nature lovers can immerse themselves in Mother Natures' splendid display of flowers, discovering a diversity of native, flowering plants in our local surrounds.
A blooming good time awaits! Image: www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
For two whole weeks, from Saturday 17 August to Sunday 1 September, local Sunshine Coasters have the unique opportunity to get out and about to celebrate the onset of Spring.
Please note that there are events and activities happening prior, as well as post, to the Wildflower Festival’s dates, so please take note of these additional dates to avoid the disappointment of perhaps missing out on something special.

Learn how to cultivate a mini habitat in your own backyard - Image: www.eventbrite.com.au
Join Trevour Pitt from
Barung Landcare to learn how to cultivate a diverse and resilient 'mini' habitat in your own backyard.
Micro forests or Miyawaki forests are a planting method designed to deliver compact, rapid growth, using a palette of local native trees. The ultimate garden for wildlife, this workshop gives you the know how to make your very own micro forest.
The concept of micro forests has been ground-proofed by the development of Barung's Seed Forest: an outdoor classroom and example of designing for biodiversity, established in 2020. In a relatively small area, it demonstrates planting and mulching techniques, principles of species diversity and succession, the establishment of shade and microclimates, the role of pollinators and value of habitat features.
