Lace up those runners. The inaugural Sunshine Coast Marathon and Community Run Festival is on over the weekend of August 25 and 26.

Young and old, boys and girls, seasoned runners, weekend warriors and even couch potatoes are invited to get up, get active and bask in the Sunshine Coast's natural beauty over two winter days.

Runners are lining up to take part in the inaugural Sunshine Coast Marathon and Community Run Festival over August 25 and 26.

More than 5000 people are expected to fill out the field across the 2km, 5km, 10km, half and full marathon events as they run past some of the Coast's most stunning locations. So not only is it going to be a weekend of great exercise, it's doubling as a scenic tour. No matter the distance runners are going to see the best of the Sunshine Coast. All courses run along the water front, taking in locations like Alexandra Headland, Cotton Tree, and world-famous Mooloolaba.

If you're not into running no problem. The participants will need all the moral support (and water) they can get on the day. Set up a chair between the route and the Maroochy River to cheer on your family and friends, or arrive earlier to grab a picnic table or better yet a barbecue spot to make a real day of it.

Your karma is also in for a healthy boost. All money raised from the racers will going towards the Ronald McDonald House Charities and The Butterfly Foundation. To date more than $30,000 has been raised.

Entries are open until Thursday August 23 for individual runners.
