For anyone that has visited the Sunshine Coast region, they will know that it is the epicentre of laidback lifestyle. Why would anyone be wound up or rushing about when spectacular coastlines and beaches are to be enjoyed? The only real sufficient reason would be if you were an entrant in the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon & Community Run Festival in August 2012.
In its inaugural year, the festival promises to be an exciting day of activity on August 26. The 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon & Community Run Festival offers a little something for everyone with a marathon, a half marathon, a 10km, 5km and kids 2km. Runners are encouraged to raise funds for charity with proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House Charities and The Butterfly Foundation. There will be lots of other fun and interesting things to enjoy around the area also including the Marathon Markets with 40 stallholders, food, buskers and kid's entertainment.
The course starts and finishes in Alexandra Headlands and runs through some of Queensland's most popular holiday spots including Cotton Tree, Maroochydore and Mooloolaba. Event organiser Atlas Multisports has incorporated elements of the London Olympic marathon course, where runners will cover four laps of a scenic route. This course design not only allows participants to enjoy views of some of the best beaches on the Sunshine Coast, but spectators can get up close and personal to cheer on their family, friends or co-workers.
Prices range from $20 to $120 depending on distance and all entrants have the chance to win great random draw prizes, including a Piaggio Scooter. Participant numbers are capped at 5000 entrants to ensure runners have the most comfortable and enjoyable race as possible. Runners representing every state and territory and nine different countries have already entered.
