Attention library nerds
Maleny Library

Our local libraries are an excellent resource to be taken advantage of, not only for providing that great novel, magazine or movie to keep us entertained through the coming cooler season, but also for hosting events, and activities to help educate and inspire us.

Just recently in mid April, the Sunshine Coast Libraries installed a new system to make borrowing and returning items easier, so staff can spend more time attending to customer queries, and locating good books.

There are also numerous resources and activities offered by our libraries catering for diverse members of our communities which are mostly free.

The children's area at Maleny library

If you are a parent seeking to improve your child's reading and comprehension, you can easily locate picture books to read together as a family. Each library also hosts weekly Rhyme-time and Story-time sessions to facilitate your toddler, or young child's learning.

Books on literacy

There are also different classes available in numeracy, computer literacy, and conversation circles for ESL learners who want to practice speaking English. There are also adult literacy classes for adults wanting to improve their reading and writing, and an opportunity for people to train and volunteer to become adult literacy tutors.

For the budding author, or those seeking creative inspiration, the library hosts regular author talks, art exhibitions by local artists, craft days, and expert talks on topics such as wellness, sustainability and various other topics offering practical life skills.

Books galore!

All of these activities and a list of future events are featured on the Sunshine Coast Libraries website, which is informative and easy to navigate.

You can also search the online library catalogue for that tangible book, or if you prefer the digital read, you can download eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines from their website.

With cosy inviting nooks and comfy chairs for you to get lost in a book, free wifi, computers, comfortable desks for study, and shelves upon shelves of books, the library offers an environment conducive to learning, improving the mind, stimulating the imagination and fun! You could also make a family visit there, as there is something for everyone in the family.
