Get art into the hinterland
October is the month when Sunshine Coast Hinterland artists come out of hibernation to show us what they've been creating during the winter.
So it's a good month for art lovers to visit Montville, Maleny and the Hinterland for a weekend escape, mid-week getaway or a day-trip.
The Hinterland art calendar in October includes an open air sculpture exhibition, an open studio trail and art workshops.
September 27-October 29 – Sculpture on the Edge.
Eighteen talented sculptors are exhibiting their works in a parkland setting at Spicers Tamarind near Maleny. Sculpture on the Edge is an annual event and is getting better every year.
For more photos of the sculptures, visit my web site but better till, go to the exhibition at Spicers Tamarind, Obi Lane South, Maleny.
4-6 October – Green Thumbs The Blackall Range Visual Artists group is celebrating the arrival of Spring with an exhibition of works featuring gardens and pets at St Marys Hall, Montville. Our photo shows Taman Sari Garden by Dorothy Peall.
Taman Sari Garden by Dorothy Peall is on show at Montville's St Mary's Hall.
10-11 October - 2 Doors 4 Thoughts With too much creativity to fit into a single space, four outstanding Hinterland artists are coming together to hold a joint exhibition in two studios. Steph McLennan, Jinty Stockings, Katie Wells and Susan Bowers will show off their pieces at Steph McLennan's studio on Western Avenue and at Susan Bowers' studio on Balmoral Road. Our picture shows one of Jinty Stockings' vivid bird paintings. Don't worry if you're running out of wall space; Jinty's paintings are made to hang outside.
Visit between 10 am and 4pm on Friday October 10 or start Saturday at 9am with a champagne brunch at Steph's studio at Tunkullum 394 Western Avenue, Montville and then go onto Susan's studio at 105 Balmoral Road, Montville.
Jinty Stockings' richly detailed bird paintings are exquisite
Fourteen local artists will fling open their studio doors to welcome you into their creative space over two weekends. Watch the artists at work, buy a painting, and chat with them about how they created it. They tend to live in beautiful locations with amazing views so it's a pleasant way to explore the hinterland. Our photo shows Heather Gall ; take your camera if you visit her studio because the view will take your breath away. You'll find more details here.
Heather Gall is one of the artists opening her studio during October
October 13-17 – midweek art workshops If you fantasise about spending your days painting instead of chasing deadlines, grab some annual leave and run away for a mid-week art workshop. Hinterland artists are hosting 14 workshops from October 13 to 17 including dyeing, jewellery-making, printing, painting, life-drawing and mindfulness techniques to help you release your creativity. See all the details on the Arts Connect website.
26 October – Art Technology = ArTech HinterLand ArTech is an event that will celebrate creativity with an innovative combination of contemporary and indigenous arts and technology at the Montville Village Hall.
