An event that will warm your heart as the cold season starts
They're cute, they're cuddly and they're beloved pets of children and adults alike. What are they? They're guinea pigs and this Sunday at the Nambour CWA Hall you'll get the chance to see the sweet, little puffy creatures, also known as cavies, on show and learn all about how they can make the best family pets.
Held by the Sunshine Coast Cavy Club who focus on the promotion and education of the health, wellbeing and proper care and handling of cavies, the event starts around 10am and admission is free. First on the agenda, is the pedigree judging and mini competitions such as quickest eater, heaviest guinea pig and best care for pet. This will be followed by pet and novelty classes at 12nn. The show will finish around 2pm.

There will be lots of info on care for guinea pigs, pedigree guinea pigs on display, guinea pigs and accessories like "snuggle bags" for sale, and there will also be a canteen with lunch and refreshments to help raise money to keep the club going.
The club started in 2012 by Melanie Barnes, a well-known breeder and cavy expert, holds several shows per year. While the show promotes pedigree cavies, there's also going to be sections for pet guinea pigs and new pet owners are also welcome to join the cavy club.

The club also releases a bi-monthly newsletter to all their members which include health, breeding and care articles.
There are many owners and breeders who will be attending and will be happy to talk about cavies and answer any questions you may have like "What is wheeking?". So come on down this Sunday and fall in love with these fur babies like I have.
Not sure if you can make it this Sunday? The group holds shows throughout the year, watch their page to stay up to date with the latest show news. For more information rumble strut your way onto Sunshine Coast Cavy Club's facebook page.
Just after a bath. I love my cavies - Clover, Schmitzel and Sweetpea. Remember guinea pigs are forever pets looking for forever homes - not until you get bored with them , or have to move, or get a new pet. There are so many abandoned piggies out there that it breaks my heart. Take care of your piggies and be a responsible guinea pig lover
