Just how eco-healthy is your garden and the area that you call home? Find out by taking part in the very first Sunshine Coast Big Butterfly Count from Saturday 12 March to Sunday 20 March 2022. You can count from your backyard, your school, a local park or join a public survey event. Butterfly expertise is not a pre-requisite, the Big Butterfly Count is for anybody and everybody!

Butterflies are an integral party of a healthy environment. Both adult butterflies and their caterpillars are food for many creatures, including birds. Butterflies are also helpful with plant pollination. Many butterfly caterpillars can only feed on specific native host plants. As a result of the close relationship that butterflies have with plants, butterflies can be an indicator of the environmental health of an area.

Join a butterfly workshop to learn more about our local butterflies, their host plants and how to create a garden that will attract beautiful butterflies.
