A visit to the castle - Ah, the serenity
It seems a little out of place, a large medieval castle high on the hill at Bli Bli just north of Maroochydore, on the Sunshine Coast, but the Sunshine Castle abounds in medieval history and is a great place to take the family.
It was built way back in 1973, as a tourist attraction, which it remains today, however, there's plenty of interesting history within the castle, making it very educational. During school holidays, they have activities for the children too, so visit the website to find out more details.
It is also a function centre, with a wide range of events held at the castle, including weddings. It is always a good idea to check the website for details on closing hours, as on occasion, the castle is booked for major events.
During school holidays there are always great activities for the children. Check the website here for details. There are prizes to be won too - details on the website.
A range of functions are catered for, including children's birthday parties, corporate events, and it is a good spot to call into for morning tea or lunch with a great cafe serviced by staff in medieval costume.
In the Cafe
Toys are a feature of the shop - with a wide range of toys and a display called the Dancing Doll Display, which is on display on ground level in front of the Castle Gallery.
Sir Justyn, the resident knight is a feature of the castle and holds archery and other medieval activities in the castle. He has been a regular since 2004.
It is the largest castle in Australia, with a range of activities, exhibitions and a very popular tourist attraction on the north of the Sunshine Coast. Check the website for more details. www.sunshinecastle.com
