Sunset Chasing in Kalgoorlie

Kalgoorlie-Boulder may suffer from a lack of hilly terrain, but that doesn't mean there's no good spots to partake in WA's favourite pastime - watching the sunset.

From historic main streets to bush settings, there are plenty of spots to enjoy an evening watching the day come to an end in and around the inland gold mining city.

Hannan Street
It's a long, wide and straight street on a gentle downward slope, making for a great city-scape shot if you're perched up the top of the street.

What really makes this place buzz for a cracking sunset photo though is the heritage buildings. The street is lined with them on either side so there is plenty to play with.

Burt Street
Like Hannan Street, Burt Street in Boulder is also long, wide, straight and lined with heritage buildings.

The visual aspect of this street is arguably better these days though. The median strips are blooming with well-manicured flowers, the sides are lined with jacarandas, and the heritage buildings are a little smaller, allowing more evening sky into the photo.
Lookouts
The Mount Charlotte lookout just north of Hannan Street is an easily accessible spot overlooking Kalgoorlie-Boulder. As one of the few bits of high ground in the area, the benefits of going up here to watch the sun go down are obvious.

Just south of Hannan Street is an even better option though. Turn on to Williamstown Road and take a right into the unsealed carpark. A short walk up the hill here will give you stunning views over Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the opportunity to get a few head frames into your pictures if you've brought a camera with you.

Karkurla Park
For something a little more natural, Karlkurla Bushland Park at the north end of town is the go-to spot for sunset snaps.

It is a re-gen success story brimming with mature salmon gums and other native species which make for a perfect woodland foreground to supplement those beautiful orange hues of a Goldfields sunset.
