Pack your picnic basket and grab your blanket. Opera Queensland and South Bank Corporation are giving opera lovers and opera novices a chance to see Opera Queensland's finest singers perform a preview from their 2012 Season.

This free, all ages, open-air opera will take place at Rainforest Green, South Bank Parklands, on Saturday, March 17, 2012. There will be two ninety minute performances: Matinee (4:30pm) and Evening (7:30pm).

Opera Queensland's best operatic voices including Jason Barry-Smith, Virgilio Marino, Deborah Rogers, Rebecca Cassidy, and Heru Pinkasova, will be accompanied by pianist Jillianne Stoll; performing popular operas as well a preview of their upcoming season.

Admission is free. However, all concert goers must hold a ticket and tickets are limited. To reserve your free tickets, click here.

In the event of inclement weather, all ticket holders will be notified of any changes by email on Friday, March 16th, 2012.

Lawn chairs are acceptable but chair holders will be asked to sit at the rear of Rainforest Green. No alcohol or glass is permitted.

After the matinee or before the evening performance, share a meal with family or a few drinks with friends at River Quay, South Bank's newest restaurant precinct.

What a fantastic idea to entice a new audience to the opera with a couple of free performances. It is not surprising the tickets are all gone now. Fingers crossed for clear skies on Saturday - it would be a shame to have the performances washed out.
