Catch your favourite stars, under the stars
Ah, summer in Sydney. The frangipanis are in bloom, the Aperol Spritzs are on every bar's specials menu and the days stretch on until late which means... Sunset Cinema North Sydney is back! With a stellar line-up of films, from blockbusters to old classics and family favourites, there's never been a better time to pack a picnic and head across the bridge.

Located at the North Sydney Oval (just a quick jaunt up Miller Street from North Sydney Station) and running until March 30 2019, the Sunset Cinema has a little something for everyone. Catch new flicks like the all-rocking Bohemian Rhapsody (there's even a singalong version on Friday March 8!), the wildly successful Crazy Rich Asians, Mary Queen of Scots or Mary Poppins Returns. If classics are more your style, the Princess Bride and Dirty Dancing are going to warm our hearts, all on the big outdoor screen. Check the website for the full program.
Food wise, you've got a few options. Either pack up a picnic (just don't add a bottle of bubbly, you can't BYO as it's a licensed event and they check bags) and bring that along with your camp chairs and picnic rugs, or rent out a comfy 'bean lounge' or back rest for the film. Note, if you plan to bring chairs along, it's totally fine, but you'll be asked to find a spot up the back so you don't block anyone else's view. The screen is huge anyway, so you don't miss out on anything by being up the back.
This year, Sunset Cinema have partnered with Menulog and local restaurants, so you can order your dinner in advance and have it arrive before the movie starts, neat-o! And of course, there's plenty of food and snacks available for sale, from classic movie treats like chocolate and popcorn, to the more substantial fare from food vendor Artisan Flame.

Sunset Cinema have also team up with Young Henry's and Grant Burge Wines, so while you can't bring your own booze, there's nice beers, wines and ciders for sale. And of course, there's soft drinks and the like available.
Verdict: ideal for date night, family night, or just simply celebrating warm summer nights, the Sunset Cinema North Sydney is a fantastic evening out.
Heads up: They won't cancel the event if it rains; there needs to be a serious weather event before they pull the plug, so keep en eye on the forecast and if it's cloudy with a chance of rain, pack a raincoat.
