Sydney's iconic open-air cinema experience
sunset cinema, outdoor, North Sydney, st ives, movies, family

We've been told to "do it outdoors" (thanks COVID), and this has put the brake on a lot of social events and activities that Sydneysiders would normally enjoy over the summer months. But there's one event, now in its tenth year, that promises to cure you of the cabin fever that's crept in.

Sunset Cinema has returned, bringing current releases as well as some old favourites, to watch in full open-air cinemas under the stars. As well as the iconic North Sydney Oval, this year Sunset Cinema can also be found in St Ives, Canberra and Wollongong, bringing this special experience to a wider audience.

Some of the new releases Sunset Cinema is screening include:

Venom (19 Jan North Sydney)
The French Dispatch (13 & 22 Jan North Sydney, 27 Jan St Ives)
Spiderman: No Way Home (21 Jan North Sydney, 20 Jan St Ives)
No Time to Die (20 Jan North Sydney, 21 Jan & 3 Feb St Ives)
House of Gucci (3 Feb North Sydney, 4 & 17 Feb St Ives)

For a special date night or to celebrate Valentine's Day, Sunset Cinema is screening movies guaranteed to get your hearts racing, including:

Westside Story (11 Feb North Sydney & St Ives)
Dirty Dancing (12 Feb North Sydney & St Ives)

For those looking to entertain the kids during school holidays, the below movies will tick the family-favourites box:

Grease (28 January St Ives)
The Greatest Showman (12 January North Sydney, 19 January St Ives)
Encanto (14 January North Sydney, 22 January St Ives)
Sing 2 (28 January North Sydney, 26 February St Ives)

A range of seating options is available to hire online and at the venue, and you can also bring your own picnic rug, pillows and lawn chairs. For a five-star experience, you can upgrade your ticket with the super-comfortable Lawn Lounge. This is a reserved bean lounger in a prime viewing area and with the upgrade, you'll also receive bottomless popcorn.

Sunset Cinema is a fully licensed event with alcohol available at the Snack Bar onsite. You can BYO food and non-alcoholic drinks or enjoy the fantastic range of snacks, drinks and hot meals available from food vendors available every screening night.

More information about Sunset Cinema locations, dates and screenings can be found here.

Tickets can also be purchased using NSW Discover vouchers. You can redeem one $25 voucher per booking.
