Now that we've entered spring, it won't be long until our thoughts turn to managing those long, hot days of summer. Remember them? Humidity. Cicadas. Air conditioning. We all have different strategies to deal with the heat. My most favoured is staying indoors in front of the fan with a book. It's a satisfactory method to avoid months of cricket on the television too.

So where will I be sourcing this summer's reading material? At the Rotary Club of Redland Sunrise Bookfest, of course.



This annual event sees thousands of pre-loved books available for purchase at inexpensive prices, generally starting from $2. The range of books cover a multitude of genres from fiction, military, gardening, history and DIY. Children's books, as well as glossy magazines that make great school project fodder as well as being a good read, will also be available for purchase.

The Bookfest will be held from Friday the 23rd of September to Sunday the 25th. Opening hours are as follows:Friday. 12 noon till 5pmSaturday. 7:30am till 5pmSunday. 7:30am till noon

Bookfest will be held at the Thornlands Dance Palais, corner of Island Outlook Avenue and Cleveland-Redland Bay Road, Thornlands. Entry is FREE and there is onsite parking.



As well as serving me as an escape from both the cricket and the heat proceeds from the sale of these books goes towards Rotary local, national and international projects. That's my summer sorted.
