So you've seen all the kids' movies, patronised every free and paid event at the Festival of Brisbane, and run the kids ragged in the local park. You still have 6 days to fill before you can safely pack their lunches and deliver them back to school. What to do in these next few days? Here is one idea courtesy of the Museum of Brisbane, that treasure trove of Brisparaphernalia on the third floor of City Hall.
Robyn Stacey: Cloud Land, is currently showing for adults and children alike. The information desk will issue your children with free activity books to assist them in their exploration of the art of camera obscura, but this experience can be extended by their participation in Sunprints, a workshop being held in conjunction with the exhibition.
Sunprints is a hands-on activity to show children how the power of the sun can be harnessed to produce some beautiful artworks of their own design, just as Robyn Stacey has used it to make some arresting images based on Brisbane scenes and local citizens. In this activity, art and science combine to give satisfactory creative results for children aged from five years. I guessed one young man who attended the class my six-year-old enjoyed, would be awaiting his OP results quite soon.
Don't hesitate to make a booking as this free activity finishes this Friday October 2nd. Bookings are essential. www.museumofbrisbane.com.au/whats-on/sunprints-workshop/
And after all that effort, how about a trip up the clock tower in the rickety old lift followed by a chocolate milkshake at the Red Cross's Commix Cafe in the basement? Now, only a few more days to fill in until Back to School!
