Have dinner and help buy some goats
Goats, sewing machines, classrooms and school supplies. Ordinary things you might think but ones that make a big difference in the lives of some of the less advantaged communities around the world. The Sunflower Foundation is a charitable organisation with a mission "to work with indigenous communities in Australia and across the world and, through education, help them become more sustainable, lively, creative places to live". They have a particular focus on the education of girls and young women and do this by providing grants (yes, sometimes to buy goats*) and have worked with local communities in Australia, South America, Africa and India.
The Sunflower Foundation Gala Dinner is a fundraising event featuring great food, music, dancing, prizes and a silent auction. Kim Power, the President of the Foundation, explained that coming to the Gala and supporting their work was like being Rumpelstiltskin for a night and spinning straw into gold for the communities they are involved with. Following along in the golden theme, the Gala will be held in the Midas Room at William Angliss.
India - educating 100 dalit girls and seeding a poverty reduction program in village by donating goats to 25 mothers and widows. As the goats breed, all women will be given one.
Kenya - a school of 200 little girls and their community will benefit from a multi-purpose room and auditorium being established to be used for classes, performances and community meetings.
Ecuador - women in three rural villages are benefiting from classrooms set up in partnership with village women's associations, Inti Sisa and SF.
So why not come along to the Sunflower Gala, have a great time and contribute to a good cause as well. Tickets can be purchased by calling on the numbers below or by email email@example.com.
