The best Chinese food in the Castro Valley/Hayward area is found under this smallish roof. The Sunflower 1 is the second best.


The soups are my favourite here: wanton, hot and sour, egg drop.
The tea is served by the cup rather than by the teapot, which I like. They refill your cup when it gets low, and the tea comes out ready to drink instead of just brewing.

Main dishes are made with really fresh ingredients. I often get a craving for the cashew chicken. It's my favorite Chinese food dish anywhere, which is why I keep coming back here.

I'm pretty sure this is a family-owned restaurant. That's definitely the vibe. It's always the same people working there. Maybe that's why it's so consistently great. The service is good and efficient. The place is clean with nice decor.

The location is definitely a downside in some ways. Parking is usually a plus with places available right out front.

The Sunflower 2 is centrally located and really convenient for the large number of busy people in the area.
Also, it is super affordable to eat here.
