Enjoy an outdoor yoga session and start your week right
On Sunday I grabbed my exercise buddy Jo, and joined PJ, from Stretch Yoga, for an hour-long stretch session on the Botanical Garden's lush green lawn. As 8:30 is a very foreign concept to those who like to sleep in on weekends, it was certainly an early rise for us. But once we had our mats set out on the lawn and lay on our backs staring up at the sun peeking through the leaves, it was clear that this is truly the best way to start the day, and an even better way to start your week.
The class is perfect for those who have been travelling along their yoga journey for a while now, however beginners can also enjoy themselves as PJ, like all good yoga instructors, gives all participants many options in each pose. This means that not a single participant is stretching beyond their ability and no one is stuck in a pain-causing pose. She also constantly reminded us that Child's Pose, a comfy ground level pose, was always available for those who needed a break.
With this in mind, we cycled through our Downward Dogs, Warrior Poses and tree poses, focusing on perfecting our balance, posture and breathing. Considering the park was so busy and there was at least 30 of us moving in sync, I felt completely secluded and enjoyed the feeling of serenity at the beginning of what I know is going to be a busy, busy week.
As we finished the class and we lay with our eyes closed and focusing on our breathing, the sun began to sneak over the tops of the trees and pour down on our still bodies. So not only do you get to start your week with a stretch and a bit of centering, you also get a Vitamin D dosage to carry you through the day.
We finished the class with a yummy beverage from Pressed Juices under the shade of the towering evergreens. We talked about how relaxed we were, and as we are girls of course it was necessary to discuss PJ's lovely pink and blue outfit from Pure Dash Athletica, one of the sponsors of the event, who specialize in gorgeous yoga gear. If like us, you are a fan of PJ's gorgeous leggings then make sure to enter the accompanying competitions, as prizes include yoga passes and a Pure Dash Athletica voucher.
Now, at the moment these wonderful and relaxing classes are happening every Sunday through March, BUT I am hoping that if enough of us join in the fun, we can make sure this sunny social yoga session will continue every Sunday from now until I at least have rock-solid abs.
