Koh Samui Sunday Brunch in Style at Beach Republic
Our fantastic Sunday brunch in Koh Samui at Beach Republic. Read my review to see how much we like it!
As much as I love Chiang Mai, sometimes you can't beat the island life, so when Fon's school break just happened to coincide with me finishing a big project, we knew it was time to pack up our laptops and head down south. Koh Samui was the ideal pick because it's a quick flight from Chiang Mai and we have friends there. Sure, we'd have to do a little work, but what better scenery to fire up the imagination than the lush beaches of Koh Samui?
On the last day, we decided to treat ourselves and try Sunday Brunch at Beach Republic. It's been heralded as a must-do for every visitor to Koh Samui. Beach Republic is the gold standard for an ocean club in Koh Samui and specialises in eclectic and traditional cuisine with a backdrop of music and flowing champagne for the ultimate Sunday Funday. As it was our last full day on the island, we thought we'd end the vacation with a bang!
As a vegetarian, I usually wind up with some overdone toast and a pitiful little wedge of watermelon. If I'm lucky, there's some cold pasta and sugary marinara. Fon doesn't fare much better! I'm not sure what's in that mystery meat but I'm pretty certain I've never seen anything like it in nature.
No sorry slices of watermelon here! There were vistas of any kind of fresh fruit you could desire! I piled my plate high with delectable pineapple and deep purple dragonfruit. The combination of just-plucked fruits and Beach Republic's majestic sea view was intoxicating.
At Beach Republic, the oysters were kept at the optimal temperature on beds of ice to ensure maximum flavour. The presentation was lovely. We were clearly in consensus about the food quality and our choice for Sunday brunch in Koh Samui.
Fon made a beeline for the Maine lobster. She told me that it tasted exactly as if it had just been pulled from chilly waters mere hours earlier. She returned with a plate piled high with ruby slices of Scottish salmon and a creamy fillet of sea bass.
What was I doing while she was devouring all of this spectacular seafood? Chilling and starting to understand why this place is considered the top Koh Samui beach club.
Beach Republic's Live Music had begun and we were well into one of their famous Sunday Sessions. With the backdrop of the Indian Ocean, a light breeze to take the edge off the midday sun and my first champagne cocktail of the day, the soundtrack was just amazing.
The champagne got my taste buds working and I went off to investigate the dessert station. I was not disappointed. If premium ice-cream and toppings are what your sweet tooth is craving, you must try a Sunday sundae. They looked tremendous, but I had to pass them over for my first great love (sorry dear!) crème brûlée.
Is there anything better than giving the brittle sugar glaze of a crème brûlée a little tap tap tap with your spoon and watching in delight as it breaks open to reveal the luscious custard beneath? Take your spoon and get just the right combination of the two and it's pure bliss. Unfortunately, many buffets just don't get crème brûlée right. There's a lot of care that must go into each individual dessert in order to keep the sugar crisp and the custard creamy. Beach Republic gets it right. In fact, they get it close to perfect.
When I arrived back at the table, Fon had ordered us another round of champagne and suggested that we get up and take a stroll. I happily agreed. I should mention that I was very impressed with both the quality and quantity of food. Tables of carefully prepared and artfully presented finger foods were piled high with canapés and sushi. Despite the blazing sun, everything was at the exact desirable temperature and tasted like it had been created only moments before. I don't know what kind of magic Beach Republic is working in their kitchen but it's working!
Fon headed for the carving station to sample some premium meats and returned with Iberico ham, Prime roast beef and roast lamb. "I couldn't decide!" She told me. "It all looked so incredible!" Truly it did! Roast turkey, artfully sliced terrines, BBQ and an international cheese station were all within arms' reach. I got myself some Gouda and washed it down with the rest of the champagne. Heaven!
We stayed at Beach Republic all day, enjoying the live music, sun and sand and of course, choice cocktails. After a few hours, Fon suggested that we try their Thai selection. Being a native of the land of smiles she is not shy in critiquing sub-par Thai food. Beach Republic didn't disappoint. Their Phad Thai kept to the same high standard of excellence that we'd come to expect from Beach Republic.
For the best Sunday Brunch in Koh Samui, you need to check out Beach Republic. It was the high point of our Koh Samui vacation. Stick around for Sunday Sessions. Why not make a day out of it?
