Some spend their Sunday afternoons and evenings moping around the house mourning the inevitable - the weekend is on its way out and there lies a full work week before the next one. Others adopt a more proactive and social stance, they head out for a Sunday session, not wanting to waste the last few hours of precious drinking time. If you're one of the latter you may be interested to know some of the best places in Brisbane making Sundays important social events in their own right on the weekend calendar. Below are the top 5 Sunday session venues in Brisbane for those not wanting to hang up the dancing shoes before they absolutely have to.

The Fox Hotel, Melbourne Street, South Brisbane

The Fox has long been a Sunday staple for a young pretty crowd who like to be seen. Expect a lot of 18-21 year olds dressed to impress on this night of the week in particular. A major drawcard for the venue is the zero dollar steaks (formally $2) with drink purchase on the rooftop bar. There are three levels to this venue making it large enough to get a change of scene without leaving the venue. Get there early since numbers to the popular rooftop bar are limited and this place gets packed. The Fox is well serviced through public transport from by the Southern Busway and South Brisbane train station.

Oxford 152, Oxford Street, Bulimba

For a slower pace and a slightly more mature crowd head to Bulimba's Oxford 152. With comfortable lounges and a relaxed atmosphere, Lazy Sundays are the fast becoming the a popular way for Brisbanites to unwind and reflect upon the week that was. All this is done while kicking back with a beers and alongside live entertainment with 3 different acts scheduled over the afternoon and into the evening. Lazy Sundays at the '152' also offer a jug of beer and 1kg of buffalo chicken wings for you and the mates to get stuck into while you kick back.

Lazy Sundays @ Oxford 152 cater to a more mature crowd and have a relaxed atmosphere

The Normanby Hotel, Musgrave Road, Red Hill

The Normanby is one of Brisbane's premier and most well known watering holes and is busy almost every night of the week with the lineup on Sunday's offering no exception. A popular hangout for Brisbane sporting teams including the Red's and Broncos the Normanby caters to both young and old. This huge venue offers a number of balcony's, decks and even a beer garden to sit back and watch as the sun sets on the weekend. Sundays at the Normanby offer premium spirits (Grey Goose Vodka, Johnnie Walker Black) at the price of basic spirits.

The Chalk Hotel, Stanley Street, Woolloongabba

The Chalk is the latest Brisbane venue to appeal to students with their Chalk Sundays kicking off at 3pm with live bands and DJ's scheduled throughout the afternoon and evening. Located above the Woolloongabba busway the Chalk is another favourite venue on Sundays offering their famed rump steak specials with chips and salad for $11.90. The Chalk Hotel has 7 bars for patrons to mix it up at, as well as outdoor heating.

Fluffy @ The Family Nightclub, McLachlan Street, Fortitude Valley

Not exactly the laid back Sunday session of some of the other venues, but for those looking to hit the dance floor and to party into the new week, Brisbane's four level mega-club the Family comes alive on Sunday nights. Fluffy on Sundays mark one of the premier events on the Brisbane gay and lesbian community social calendar. Popular also with hospitality workers who are reigning the beginning their weekend, Fluffy sees an increasingly diverse crowd and frequently headlines well known acts such Ricki Lee and the Potbelleez.

There is little doubt that Sundays are a great day of the week to take advantage of some great entertainment and specials at some of Brissie's most exciting venues. More pubs and bars are offering Sunday line-ups all the time. What a fabulous website! I have only just discovered you in the last week! I must have been living under a rock before :) I love getting out and about and finding new and interesting places to take my partner and hangout with my friends. Such a diversified mix of activities and reviews that cater for all ages and relationship dynamics. I have just texted a friend to meet me for coffee at the Banneton Bakery. Thank you for introducing me to new and refreshing places to visit in this wonderful city we live. Kelly-Anne
