Every year thousands of people gather in Adelaide's CBD for the pleasure of running or walking to the seaside suburb of Glenelg, 12 km away, to raise funds to support athletics in South Australia, while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

This year the event will take place on Sunday 20th September and organisers are anticipating a record field of nearly 40,000 runners and walkers.

The fittest amongst us take it deadly seriously and exercise those muscles diligently in the months leading up to the event, but others tend to take a more relaxed attitude, undertaking the run in fancy dress or pacing themselves with a group of mates. Some parents like to take the whole family and even do it walking baby in the pram, while there is an enthusiastic group of wheelchair participants who tackle the run on wheels.

It's not even necessary to do the whole 12 km (although the prize incentives for this are pretty appealing!) - there are options of 3 or 6 km too, plus plenty of support to get you fit before the event and assist you on the day. From Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th of September, the Sunday Mail City Bay Fun Run Expo is set up in the city centre at Victoria Square, for a free festival with event information, displays, merchandise and sponsor offers. Competitors can also pick up their race numbers at the Expo and learn about previous events, get ideas on how to get the most from their day and meet other competitors and sponsors.

The race itself will start on Sunday 20th September outside the Festival Theatre on King William Street with a pre-race warmup and the first runners will be away at 0800. At the finish, on Colley Terrace, Glenelg, there will be refreshments available and entertainment for all the family at the Colley Reserve.

There are varying entry fees, with funds raised assisting athletes and clubs within the South Australian athletics community. For full details, go to the Sunday Mail City-Bay Fun Run website .
