Event:
I challenge you not to find a bargain at this event
This truly giant jumble sale at Summertown is an annual event not to be missed. An impressive mix of rural clearing sale and local community garage sale, there's sure to be something for all ages at the Uniting Church Hall, Greenhill Road, Summertown on Saturday, 7th April between 8am and 3pm. Just a short but scenic trip from Adelaide into the Adelaide Hills near Mount Lofty, you'll want to arrive early and make sure the car boot is clear to fill with your bargains for the day.

Strong and healthy plants to add colour to your garden

All roads lead to Summertown: from Magill on the Norton Summit Road, Burnside on Greenhill Road or hang a left at Crafers on the South Eastern Hills Freeway and you'll find a massive sale which boasts an enormous variety of goods available from country shed clearances, sporting and recreation items, the odd antique and historical artefact, well nurtured plants, traditional wooden fruit boxes (at just $1 -seriously! Grab those quickly before they go!) and curios of all descriptions to rummage through and ponder the possibilities of re-purposing.

Just think of the repurposing possibilities for these beauties

The book shed is bursting with short reads, novels, children's books and medical textbooks. Student's starting the new year will want to search the titles for podiatry, physio, psychiatry and human movement titles to save a mint on the cost of books.

Savour barista-brewed coffee, indulge in locally baked fare, homemade country style soup and a sizzling BBQ for sale on the day.

The locals report that the church is steeped in a colourful history, where in 1885, "vandals shot out the church windows and in the same year three young men caused a disturbance at the Sunday evening service by shelling peas and throwing them down the aisle." Scandalous!

Who knows what other treasures you might discover. One thing for sure, you're bound to find a welcoming smile and likely, some colourful characters around also, to spin a local yarn as you enjoy the hunt for bargains.

Summertown is only a stone's throw away from Cleland National Park or Mount Lofty Botanical Gardens so you can make your day out complete; or journey back to Adelaide with your stash of treasures on the Summertown /Ashton Road, where you'll discover what my children used to call 'the roller coaster road'. Come on up and check it out for yourself. You'll soon see what they meant.

Well worth the pleasant and easy drive, Summertown Uniting Church has several outreach activities that benefit the local community which are supported by proceeds from the day. You never know who or what you may find!
