I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.

Summer in the City

Are you a big kid at heart? Do you love games and playgrounds? Then this is definitely for you. A brand new activity is coming to Melbourne and what fun it will be! Summetime Social at Fed Square Skyline Terrace will be the place to be starting January 3nd, 2020 and will run all the way to early April 2020.

Bocce, Skittles and other lane games,a giant Jenga, retro caravans and a huge communal lawn for hanging out with friends make for a fun afternoon in the sun. Combine with drinks and live music and it's perfect!

You can pre-book the Lane games for a group of 2-6 and there are also free games to play on the lawn. A picnic basket to share can be pre-ordered and there are three on offer:
-The Classic Basket includes a grazing cheese and ploughman's box, party pies, Dirty Birdie chicken tenders, summer slaw and nana's famous potato salad ($60, recommended for two adults).
- The Lil Bit Fancy, for those feeling in a celebratory mood, which includes lobster rolls and ice cream tokens for $80.
- Family basket is perfect for two adults and two children, based on the Classic plus ice cream vouchers for the whole family and kids Napoli pizzas. Or you can just choose snacks and more substantial food food from the menu which includes pizza, burgers, salads and veggie options..

On Sundays, the communal lawn at Summertime Social will play host to the Battle of the Giant Games from 1-5pm, with an MC, prizes and live music. Friday and Saturdays will see DJ beats being played 5-10pm and Sundays will offer an acoustic soloist 1-4pm. A family-friendly schedule will be released for the school holidays and on weekends.

If you are celebrating something or just want to get together with a group you can hire huts and luxe converted caravans. The Summertime Social Huts are perfect for an afternoon session or celebration for up to 20 people, offering a casual setting to enjoy some drinks and bites. For those after something fancier, the Luxe Campers are decked out with all you need for the ultimate summertime party. A picnic spread, fried chicken, healthy salads, boozy ice cream, beer-filled eskies and even nostalgic board games are all included. You can enjoy all this with your group of up to 10 in one of these boho-inspired caravans. Book through the website.

What about some summertime cocktails to complete this idyllic scene, maybe some Passionfruit Caprioska, Miami Iced Tea or the old favourite, Aperol Spritz? Slushies, wine, beer and prosecco are also all available and weekday happy hour is 4 - 6pm with $6 tap cocktails, Furphy beer, rosť and prosecco.

The Bottomless Brunch on Saturdays for 90 minutes (11am-12.30pm) of bottomless tap cocktails, prosecco, mimosas, beer and one brunch item such as the Summertime BLT burger or Ultimate Fry Up Calzone for $49 is a great idea and a great deal.

So if you want to have some serious fun, grab your friends or family then head down to Summertime Social from 3rd January. onwards. The sun will hopefully be shining on your face and with friends or family joining in all the fun and a drink in your hand, you won't want to be anywhere else.

Social games on the outdoors are a great thing. Where welive they have a town festival each year amd games on the lawns and in the streets are a big part of it.
