Summerset Arts Festival 2015
The 7th annual Summerset Arts Festival is coming to the City of Stirling this summer and we're very happy to welcome them.

Number of events go up significantly this year, so there are more to choose from, some of them are free whereas others have low cost tickets (max $25,-). As the festival time coincides with the January school holiday, it will be one of the best ways to entertain the kids with a variety of activities. The common theme here seems to be circus, as many activities and performances involve circus acts or skills of some sort.

Not all events are for all-ages though, so do check the recommended age prior to bookings as you really don't want to have that "conversation" with your kids when they're not ready. Really.

To help those parents wanting something else for the kids to do (away from the screen), here's a list of family-friendly events from the festival, in chronological order:

SUESSICAL THE MUSICAL: A musical involving various characters from Dr. Seuss books (pictured right).
DATE: Friday 16 January - Saturday 31 January

AGES: All Ages

STORY BOOK: An interactive art installation where kids can explore, play, and create.
DATE: Saturday 17 January - Friday 23 January
TIME: 10.00am - 4.00pm (eight 45 minutes sessions per day)
VENUE: Karrinyup Library & Outdoor Forecourt, Davenport St, Karrinyup
COST: $7 (Adults & Kids)
AGES: 4-12 years

SEASIDE CARNIVAL: The official opening event with entertainment for all ages.
DATE: Saturday 17 January
TIME: 4.00pm - 9.00pm
VENUE: Scarborough Beach Reserve, The Esplanade, Scarborough
COST: Free
AGES: All Ages

AYERS ROCK SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB: A laugh-inducing performance by a couple of entertainers with circus skills pretending to be life-savers in Ayers Rock (which you would recall don't have any beach).
DATE: Saturday 17 January
TIME: 4.30pm, 5.30pm & 6.30pm
VENUE: Sunset Veranda (pop-up venue), Scarborough Beach Reserve, Scarborough

AGES: All Ages

CABARET MOONSTRUCK: A beautiful circus performance involving aerial and contortion feats and show of strength and manipulation (pictured right).

AGES: All Ages

TALES & TRAILS: A guided heritage walk starting from the Henderson Centre through Star Swamp then up to Mount Flora Museum where morning tea will be provided and a special talk will be given by Museum Curator Tracy Willet.

SUNSET SAMBA: 30 minutes of samba performance where participation will be encouraged.

THE BIG GIG!: A puppet show by the Black String Puppet Theatre, with a storyline involving various circus performers. Apparently even a puppet could do a hand-stand.

BACKYARD BBQ: A comical and fantastic circus show with a storyline following an Aussie backyard BBQ.

SPLAT!: A funny game show with circus skills involved and the audience gets to influence the results. The loser gets a "splat" of pie on the face.

PICK UP AND PLAY WITH ACCESS CIRCUS: An afternoon with opportunities to try different circus acts such as juggling, diabolo, spinning plates, etc.

THE BEST OF THE JOY HOUSE FILM FESTIVAL: A collection of 20 movies in various genres (comedy, animation, drama, romance, etc) that celebrates "Joy." Hosted by ex-Playschool presenter Joy Hopwood.

FINALE CONCERT: The closing concert is headlined by the five-piece rock band The Preatures, supported by accoustic artist Kim Churchill.
