summer walks

The 2021 bushwalking season might be over, but summer walks by Friends of the Heysen Trail have just begun. I went along to their second walk through the affluent suburb of Springfield last Wednesday. It was a lovely evening skirting Carrick Hill and Waite Conservation Park with two volunteer leaders and several fellow walkers. The view of the city was excellent too.

Summer walks are usually between 1.5 and 2 hours on a Wednesday evening, however, this may not always be the case. Details of each walk can be found on their website. Registrations open about a week before and require a fee of $5 per person. You might also want to become a member by joining the Friends as an individual for $25 or a family for $40. Membership gives you the benefit of receiving their Trailwalker magazine as well as getting retail discounts on maps and books.

Generally followed by a meal, these walks are a great way to get to know other people. Anyone with a modest degree of physical fitness is welcome to participate.
