Perth's swing dance season kicks off
A battle of the bands like no other, Summer Swing Smackdown is an epic vintage-style event that's a must-do on your summer calendar.

Picture it: four swing bands facing off song-for-song in a boxing ring-style set-up while swing dancers sizzle on the dance floor and compete for a champion's trophy. Sound like fun?

The gloves will be on as three of Perth's hottest jazz and swing talents The Hammer Nine, The Darling Buds of May and Smackdown virgins Ensemble Formidable face off the infamous, Adelaide-based Lucky Seven.

Dance demonstrations, saucy cigarette girls and the crowd-pleasing antics of "Perthonality" MC Magnus Danger Magnus will make this the swing scene's night of nights.

The team at HMS PopUp Productions are behind this not-to-be-missed swing dance and music spectacular held in the State Theatre Centre's courtyard on January 18 and with sell-out shows the last few years, they say you'd better snap yours up fast.

Having heard some of the bands and been to some HMS PopUp Productions events, I can vouch for the extreme fun factor. The singing and music is top-notch, the dancing energetic ... the overall result is excitement plus! Not to mention that you get to show off your best rockabilly and vintage clothes!

Don't be put off if you can't swing dance, either. There are plenty of people willing to give you a lesson, as I learnt from another event.

The show will run from 7pm to 11.30pm.

Tickets range from $50 to $80 and are available here.
