Federation Square is celebrating the Summer Solstice on Saturday, 17 December, with an afternoon of free live music performances and workshops. (Technically the Summer Solstice will fall on Thursday, 22 December, 05:30am this year).

This free family friendly event will begin kick off at 1.15pm on the Federation Square Main Stage with a performance by the Jerusalem Gospel Rumba. Following this performance, which will include a congo line, Asanti Dance Theatre will host a half hour drumming workshop at 2.00pm and later at 3.00pm.

A.R.A.B (Anti Racism Action Band) will perform a special jam session on the Federation Square Main Stage at 3.30pm, followed by Shaking the Tree at 4.00pm. Shaking the Tree is a choir which is known for performing contemporary classics, including songs by Leonard Cohen, Midnight Oil and The Cure.

Melbourne Mass Gospel Choir will close the event at 4.30pm with a special half hour performance. The Melbourne Mass Gospel Choir recently performed a series of sold out show in Melbourne entitled 'Gospel Songs Of Bob Dylan'.

For more information on this very special event, please see the Federation Square website and Federation Square Facebook profile.
