School holiday boredom-buster for active kids
School holiday boredom has well and truly set in. The Christmas/New Year frenzy has finished, it's too early to think about back-to-school jobs, and the kids are complaining yet again that they have nothing to do. Why not combat school holiday cabin fever by trying Ginger Sport's summer soccer sessions.
Ginger Sport is a south-east Queensland based organisation delivering fun, energetic and exciting physical activity sessions for 2-10 year olds, based around soccer. A range of ball skills are covered allowing participants to develop their gross motor and co-ordination skills, before progressing to specific soccer skills. You may have seen them out and about at schools, parks and even shopping centres as they run various activities throughout the entire year. The key to Ginger Sport's success is the enthusiasm of their sports coaches who facilitate the program, allowing kids to have fun in a positive, supportive, and encouraging environment.
Summer soccer sessions for 2013 are being offered at various locations across Brisbane, Redlands, Moreton, Logan, Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. There are two delivery styles to choose from; soccer camp or weekly sessions.
Soccer camps will run for a three hour session, covering various fun soccer activities, skills and small sided soccer match practice. Each child who participates will not only receive expert soccer coaching, but will also take home a certificate of achievement, activity sheets, and a Ginger Sport drink bottle. The cost is $30 per child with sibling discounts available and is suitable for four to ten year olds.
Weekly sessions vary in length from 30 to 75 minutes, depending on the age of the child, and run for three consecutive weeks. Participants will receive a certificate of achievement, activity sheets, and soccer coaching within a play-based learning experience, developing co-ordination through games and drills. The cost is dependent on the session length, starting at $33 for three weeks. Session groups are age-based, starting at age two up to age ten.
Further information including online registration details can be found on the Ginger Sport website. Alternatively you can contact Ginger Sport by phoning them on 3890 3338. Be sure to book early to avoid disappointment as numbers are capped, particularly if you have siblings or friends who want to be in the same session together.
Her enthusiasm for soccer continues into the backyard
The great thing about Ginger Sport is the emphasis on participation just to have fun. Whilst my kids are too young to fully understand the fundamental rules of a soccer match, the look of pride beaming from their smiles when the coach gave them a high five for effort was enough to tell me that they would want to come back for more. Whether you're after your little Pele, Maradona, or Beckham to make it to the A-League, or after a little school holiday fun, one thing is for sure – Ginger Sport is definitely worth a look for frazzled parents with kids who seem to have endless energy.
