Sat 14 Mar 2020
Saturday 14 March 2020 at the historic Summer Hill Church is a day to celebrate original folk and acoustic music, along with culture, whilst fostering a stronger community. The beautiful grounds will champion and support, both emerging and established, artists in connecting them to audiences in the area.
It's a free event with over 12 bands and soloists lined up to play across multiple stages, with the Low Stage hosting blackboard sessions where anyone can claim a 30-minute slot to perform by writing their name on the blackboard (from 12pm). A limit of one slot per band is in place.
Musicians include The Morrisons, Queen Porter Stomp, Jamie Seyfang, Abigail Wighton, CJ Stranger and Whoa Mule. You can expect country ballads, bluegrass, fiddle dance tunes, gypsy jazz, indie-pop, songs and instruments of Nepal, Irish music and dancing.
Free music workshops are available that will get you further into the spirit of this festival. Previous years have seen 'Songwriting Tips from the Artists' and 'Introducing the Harp'. There is no word yet as to what workshops are on this year. Stay tuned for updates on
Facebook .
Artisan market stalls (11.30am-4.30pm) will showcase local and handmade products, whilst food stalls and a festival BBQ (11.30am-2pm & 5.30pm-7.30pm) will satisfy your hunger. You're also only a 3min walk away from Summer Hill Village with a great range of restaurants and bars.
This festival is an all-ages event and, because of the work the church does and its promotion for recovering alcoholics, it is alcohol-free and smoke-free.
