My favourite thing to do on the school holidays is taking the kids to see a movie. There is always one or two kid's movies released during the school break and this summer there are plenty to choose from.

Puss In Boots Release Date: December 8, 2011

We saw this one on the weekend and I laughed more than my children. It is one of those magical movies that appeals to both children and adults alike. Puss in Boots, my favourite character from Shrek, is charming, witty, and strangely seductive. This movie takes place pre-Shrek when he was fugitive feline. Teamed with a rotten egg, Humpy Alexander Dumpty, and a sultry sidekick, Kitty Softpaws, it's a movie about revenge and redemption. The dance fight in the Glitter Box is a scene not to be missed. Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek are the voices behind the purring partners in crime.

Dolphin Tale Release Date: December 15, 2011

Kids love animal movies. Dolphin Tale is based on a true story about a bottlenose dolphin named Winter; rescued after losing her tale in a crab trap and fitted with a prosthetic one. Starring Harry Connick Jr, Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman, and Winter as herself.

Happy Feet Two Release Date: December 26, 2011

Happy Feet Two, the sequel, is the opposite of Happy Feet; most of the penguins dance - except Erik, the son of Mumbles and Gloria. After humiliating himself dancing, he becomes an outcast; returning to save Emperor-Land from an insurmountable iceberg with his operatic voice. Elijah Wood returns as Mumbles, Robin Williams as Lovelace, and Pink replaces Brittany Murphy as Gloria.

The Adventures of Tintin Release Date: December 26, 2011

Directed by Steven Spielberg (his first antimated movie) and produced by Peter Jackson, this is one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer. Based on the comic books by Belgian artist Herge - using motion-capture technology (think Polar Express) - The Adventures of Tintin tells the tale of Tintin, his dog Snowy, and salty sailor Captain Haddock searching for hidden treasure. Jamie Bell (Billy Elliott) stars as Tintin.

The Muppets Release Date: January 12, 2012

Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and the gang are back; reunited to save the Muppets Theater from demolition. Stars Jason Segal, Amy Adams, Jack Black as himself, and a cache of cameos: Neil Patrick Harris, Emily Blunt, Selena Gomez, Dave Grohl, Whoopi Goldberg, and many more.
