Don't miss these beachside events to celebrate Christmas
The end of the school year and the start of summer deserves a market day to celebrate, let your hair down, and maybe have your first swim of the season. So get out of the big malls and into your local community. Support skilled artisans and small businesses. Breathe in the fresh salty air of Sydney's northern beaches and have a whale of a time doing it... maybe you'll spot one or two of them off the coast. Happy holidays....

Where: Dunbar Park and surrounding streets of Avalon village This would be one of the best street fairs in Sydney. There's a fantastic array of market stalls selling jewellery, crafts, gourmet food and fashion. Carnival rides will be backed up by show bags, the annual popular Dog Show (main stage 9.30am), or enter your pooch in the 'Best Dressed', 'Best Trick', or 'Best Dog in Show' categories. The special focus this year is on all things local to support local suppliers, artisans and businesses. Plus, McGrath Avalon will be supporting breast cancer awareness by selling pink lemonade, fairy floss and cupcakes and raffling an Apple i-pad. All proceeds will go to the McGrath Foundation. Newport Beach Festival When: Sunday 26th November, 2017, from 9am Where: Newport Beach and surrounding streets, Newport, NSW Over 200 stalls, a visit from Santa, live music and entertainment, plus amusement rides and international food come together to transform this sleepy beachside suburb into one big Christmas party. There's a major focus on local community and all the boutiques will be offering specials. So come check out the bargains and don't forget to bring your cossies for a quick dip. Where: Lakeside Park, Narrabeen Two days of fun for everyone, including concert band, Belrose Big Band, Irish and Serbian dancing, 140 market stalls supplying food, drinks, craft, fashion and jewellery. Ocean Care Day Festival When: Sunday 3 December, 2017, 10.30am - 4.30pm
Where: Manly beachfront
Dress in your best marine-inspired outfit - dolphin, mermaid or giant squid - and meet at the wharf at 9.45am to join in the parade. Bring as many kids and as much colour as you like, as it will be filmed. You will be supporting 45 eco-ocean exhibitors, musicians and guest speakers who want to spread the message 'Keep Our Sea Plastic-Free'. Christmas Choral Concert

Do you love singing and always wanted to be in a choir? Then tune up those vocal chords and get along to Manly Senior's Centre, 275 Pittwater Road, Manly on 16, 23 and 30th November for some rehearsals before the big night on Manly Oval. Palm Beach Market
When: Sunday 17 December, 2017, 9am - 3pm
Where: Governor Phillip Park, Palm Beach
This market is usually on the 4th Sunday of the month, except during November and December. Even if you don't need to buy anything, just come and enjoy the most scenic location in Sydney. In the shadow of Barrenjoey Lighthouse, you're flanked on one side by the placid Pittwater, where sailboats and sailboarders flit by, and on the other side by the pounding Pacific Ocean. Stalls are nestled amongst the dunes and you'll find beach-inspired homewares, ceramics, handmade educational toys, children's wear, art and photography, and fresh food. The Beaches Christmas Market

Where: Pittwater Rugby Park (Rat Park), 1472 Pittwater Road, Warriewood
These regular markets step up a notch coming into the Christmas season. Local providores have everything you'll need for your feasting - fresh organic farm produce, free-range meat sellers, delectable dairy products, home-made cakes and pastries. The jumping castle keeps the kids busy while you chill with a coffee or three. Meanwhile, stallholders offer an eclectic mix of fashion, jewellery, homewares and gifts. Give the big supermarkets a miss and shop local this Christmas.
