With the sun shining the beaches glistening and dozens of great events on the Peninsula, there is no reason to spend summer anywhere else.
I have a compiled a list of some of the fantastic things that you can do over the summer holidays on the Mornington Peninsula.
Markets: *Red Hill Craft market is on the 4th of January ad 1st of February between 8am-1pm at the Red Hill Recreation Reserve. One of the first and most famous of all markets within Victoria. Red Hill market has over 300 stalls.
*Point Nepean Portsea Craft market is on 19th of January held in the Quarantine Grounds of Point Nepean National Park between 10am-3pm. Parking is $5 and no dogs are permitted.
*Flinders market is on the 5th of January and is a fun community market with a mix of trash and treasure, hand made and baked goods and anything that goes really.
*Emu Plains market is held at the Balnarring Racecourse with a twilight market between 3-8pm on the 4th of January and morning markets on the 18th of Jan and 15th of Feb.
Sporting Events: *Two Bays Trail Run is on the 12th of January and covers distances of 28km - 56km depending on the route you have chosen.

Rye Gift Athletics Carnival is an annual event held at the Rye Football Ground on the 11th of January and sees a mix of amateur athletes competing to take out cash and prizes. Spectator entry fee is $10, children are free.
*Portsea Polo probably needs little introduction, it's on the 11th of January between 10:30am - 6pm and is held in the grounds of the Quarantine Station of Point Nepean National Park. For all the single ladies out there this could be the place to snare your prince or at least someone that likes the ponies and champagne. Tickets for the event are $75 and can be booked here.
Portsea Pro Am is on the 2nd of January at Portsea Golf Course. Spectator entry is $10 and includes car parking. With $30,00 in prize money competition is going to be strong.
Portsea Twilight Fun Run is on the 4th of January. Choose between a 3.75km walk/run or the 7.75km walk/run. This fun run would have to be one of the most scenic fun runs around. Adult entry is $40 or $48 on the day.
Australia Day Fun Run ( January 26th) starts from Safety Beach or Dromana to Rosebud, with the option of 5.3km or 10km run. Entry is $35.
Dressage Meets The Mornington Peninsula at Boneo Park from the 24th -26th of January. See some of Australia's best riders compete for the CDI title and watch Freestyle dressage to music. Tickets cost between $10-$20 and are available at the gate.
Family Events: Sand Sculptures are once again taking prime position at Frankston Waterfront with this year's theme being Storyland where 3,500 tonnes of sand gets transformed into a works of art. A family entry costs $39.
Silvers Circus will be at the Village Green in Rosebud from the 2nd of January to the 19th of January. Tickets are priced between $34-$43.
RACV Great Australian Rally is the biggest display of classic cars in Victoria. It's held on the 19th of January between 8am-3:30pm at the Mornington Racecourse. Entry is $10 for adults, children are free. Take a picnic and enjoy listening to some live music under the shade of a tree.
Peninsula Music Festival will be held at Morning Star Estate on the 12th of January. Tickets cost $25 for adults, children are free.
Peninsula Summer Music Festival is on between the 27th of December - 5th of January, held at the Frankston Arts Centre, Frankston. For more info and tickets click on the link above.
