Summer BBQ Spots Along the Perth Coast

Summer time is possibly the most beautiful time of the year to experience Perth by the Beach. Water is typically calm with hues of blues running right out to the horizon. Sunsets are even more stunning, with shimmers of gold and orange rays dancing on little ripples of water like little Summer fairies. It is truly a spectacular experience which can be enjoyed, at no extra cost, by the beach.
Fortunately, Perth is one of the few cities in the world that offers visitors the opportunity to experience the use of a BBQ at no additional cost to the visitors. There is no need to add coins, swipe a card, or buy time for gas. All one needs is your food and cooking utensils. The BBQ, the gas and bin is supplied by the council. It is truly an exceptional experience that anyone can enjoy.
However, the single most important question that comes to mind, is 'Where is that Perfect BBQ spot!'. As a result, I created a little list of areas that include amenities in the area.
Scarborough Beach
One can find a couple of BBQs within 1 km of the new Scarborough development. Although free, parking is limited. This location is found at the corner of 'The Esplanade' and 'Brighton Road'. It has a bathroom, with easy access to the beach. Picnic benches are available, however, one can enjoy a picnic by the beach on the rolling grass area.
Trigg Beach
Clarko Reserve, found by Surf WA, is still the most popular spot for many people. There is a play park for kids, toilets, a number of picnic benches, a large grass area, and a number of BBQs. While there is ample parking around this area, the popularity of this location can present a small problem. There is also easy access to the beach with a shower to wash off beach sand.
Waterman's Bay
This little site has one BBQ and one picnic bench. It is tucked away from plain sight, however, can be easily found by following the pathway towards to kids playground area. There are a few wooden benches under the trees, where you can sit and enjoy a picnic while watching the sunset. The beach, which forms a small cove, is also sheltered by a small reef. One can access it by the stairs. There is parking but it can be busier at certain times. There are no toilets in this area. It is generally quieter than other BBQ spots and the view is exceptional. Personally, this is a perfect spot for a little romantic picnic by the beach and under the stars.
Sorrento Beach
There are about four BBQs in this area with a number of picnic benches. With an extensive rolling grass area, one can easily opt for a picnic, instead of a BBQ by the beach. Due to the lack of trees in this area, it would be wise to take an umbrella. Furthermore, this area is popular which may challenge parking choices. However, because of its location, one can park in the Hillary Harbor parking area which can be found parallel to this BBQ spot. There is easy access to the beach with a shower to wash off beach sand. Toilets can be found closer to the Surf Club.
Hillary Boat Harbor
Hillary Boat Harbor has a number of barbecues and benches near the man-made 'sea pool'. Notably, there are also a number of cafes and restaurants which may offer the option to have a meal by the beach without cooking or cleaning. However, if you are on a shoestring budget, Hillary Harbor offers a range of amenities which can make a meal by the beach a little more enjoyable. The kids' playground is one of the main attractions for young visitors. Parents, notably, enjoy the shallow swim area. The area is generally well sheltered from the wind. Toilets can be found by the main entrance and there is plenty of parking.
Whitford Nodes Park
Whitford Nodes Park can be found north of Hillary Boat Harbor. It has a number of picnic benches and a couple of BBQs. There is easy access to the beach and a shower to wash off beach sand. There are also toilets, a playground and bins. This spot can be a little cooler than others due to the number of trees found in this area. Parking could be a problem on a summer day, however, evenings are a great time to enjoy a BBQ while the sun sets.
