I am a writer doing my best to look at Sydney every day with tourist eyes.

The large mixed dips.

You are about as likely to find a free table as you are a Turkish Sultan if you turn up to this Enmore joint on a weekend night. The reason for that? Delicious Turkish meals at very cheap prices.

The Sultan's Table is near the Enmore Theatre on Enmore Road.

While King St in Newtown might dominate most of the hungry diner crowd, this place has become a bit of a rite of passage for those heading to a concert at the Enmore Theatre, provided you book ahead.

Sultan's is run by a dedicated bunch of people who have nailed the art of succulent Turkish meats, pides and dips. If you do get a seat in here, you can watch the waiters literally run from table to table in order to cater for the never ending line of people pining for a pide.

You can never have too many pides.

This place is best enjoyed with a group of people so you can greedily try as much as your stomach will allow. No matter what, you never seem to be able to spend more than $15 a person here.

Start with the mixed dips. The large ($20) will give you eight different dips to eagerly swirl your deliciously doughy Turkish bread into, including hummus, baba ganoush and beetroot. Watch out for the chilli carrot though - that one is for spice lovers only.

The Sultan's Special pide

The most popular meal choice here is the pide, with more of that delicious Turkish bread filled with diced meats, vegetables and cheese. There are plenty of types to choose from, all ranging between $8 and $15. The Sultan's special is just that, with steam fried diced lamb, cheese and egg.

But meat lovers have to try the mixed grill here ($26). It is the best I've tasted with the juiciest and most tender pieces of beef, chicken and lamb to wrap in tomato, lettuce and bread. The dish is big enough to easily feed two people.

The baklava. A sweet end to a great meal

And if you have any room left, Sultan's also serves a fine piece of baklava ($3) not too oily, not too sweet, it's just right.

If you can't get a table here, then put in a takeaway order, go home and eat a meal fit for a king, or a Sultan.
