At Sultans you will be treated like a Turkish king
Sultan, in Turkish, means king (or something along those lines); and Sultans the Restaurant, located in Boondall, is the king of delicious Turkish food (that is definite).
I discovered Sultans, as it is in the surrounds of my local area. However, if you don't live on the Northside of Brisbane it is a slight trek out of the way. But in my opinion it is well worth the effort. It is near the Boondall entertainment centre, so if you're headed out that way it is worth eating here before you watch your live entertainment.
It is tucked away neatly amongst the trees of Nudgee College and is directly beside Zaraffas. It has extensive opening hours, which run Tuesday to Sunday from 10am till late (Monday is the only day they are closed).
From the outside, it is intriguing for it is literally an octagonal purple building in what seems like the middle of nowhere. Once inside, the intrigue transforms to appreciation. Well, at least for me it did. As one would expect, everything is Turkish themed. But the décor is so detailed that you feel like you have stepped into a different time and space…it feels like you are in Turkey. Every detail is catered to: the table cloths, the cushions on the seats, the wall décor, the lighting and even the windows are of Turkish inspiration and it is impressive. It is also a surprisingly large space, as it can sit up to 200 people.
The menu is extensive (and all disclosed online), offering a broad range of food to suit all palettes. Imagine Turkish pides, pizzas, gourmet and char grilled dishes, seafood, entrees and dips, kebabs and burgers, vegetarian options, banquets and desserts, all under the same roof. A lot of bread is involved so go there hungry (perhaps on the verge of starving). It is also great if you can go with a large group of people, so food can be shared around and you can get a good sample of the delicious food on offer. Plus, it would be a lot of fun and the prices are very reasonable. But if you are alone or not in the mood to dine out, the great thing is they also do takeaway and drive through.
The staff are friendly and kind, which makes sense as the restaurant is of family origins. It has great cohesive feel and you will be catered to like royalty. Another exciting event is the belly dancing, which adds to the full Turkish experience. They have a great website, which even has a counter for the next belly dancing event. And, you can even book your reservation online.
At Sultans' 'customers always come first' and they are there 'to suit any lifestyle'. It's true to the word, and at the same time you'll eat like royalty. So if you want to eat and be treated like a Turkish king, head to sultans. It is a purple gem amongst the Australian green.
