An online poll this year by
Adelaide Now readers, revealed Semaphore beach to be the second most popular beach in our state, and I can certainly understand why. The beach foreshore is picture perfect, and with its crystal blue waters, it is the idyllic destination this summer.
Located in this historic suburb however, lies something else which is a must-visit. It is Sully's On Semaphore, a rustic yet modern cafe I recently discovered, but has quickly become one of my favourite dining destinations.

Sully's On Semaphore
Although I am no coffee connoisseur, in my opinion, their coffee is one of the best I have had in Adelaide. It is the ideal blend of coffee bitterness and creamy milk, while leaving you with a hazelnut-like aftertaste. They even give away a little cookie with their take-away coffees, and this complements the beverage perfectly. I find it is always nice to have something to nibble on while sipping away. It is assuring also when you know they use
Rainforest Alliance Certified Coffee.

Perfect flat white coffee
If you are like my dear partner, and have a sweet tooth, most of their cakes are made on the premises as well, so you are guaranteed freshness. These are also available to take-away, which I found useful when I wanted to share my enjoyable experience with my parents at home.

Steak sandwich - tender steak, bacon, lettuce, tomato, spanish onion, and tangy relish on ciabatta bread
For breakfast and lunch, there are options aplenty on their menu. My personal favourite is Sully's French toast, with the sweet and savoury flavours providing a party for my palate each time. The usual cafe suspects are there, such as eggs benedict for breakfast, and various toasted lepinjas for lunch.
If dinner is more suited to you, they are open every Friday night over the summer, and every Saturday night all year around, with dishes such as herb crumbed flathead fillet, on tomato and cucumber salsa, with sticky balsamic glaze and rocket. Sully's is fully licensed too, so you can savour a chilled glass of white wine or beer with your meals.
Whatever you decide to devour, chef specials are updated on a weekly basis, so you know there will be a different dish to tempt you each visit.

The staff are very courteous and friendly, and willing to cater to all your requests. If nothing on their menu jumps out at you, then let them know what you want, and they will try their absolute best to fulfil your desires.
Chances are however, there will be something on the menu to tantalise your tastebuds. I have yet to hear anyone being disappointed with their Sully's experience.
Finally, as mentioned, the decor is modern, crisp and always clean, which made me notice how the toilets are always immaculate. This I believe reflects on their high kitchen and hygiene standards, something that not all cafes and restaurants practice.
Consequently, if you enjoy high quality coffee and food (and free WIFI), and are ever down Semaphore way, be sure to drop by Sully's and give them a visit, or in my case, many continuous visits. Be warned, you will probably be back for more.
