Located on Malvern Road, Malvern, Sukhumvit is an intimate Thai restaurant with a menu sure to please anyone. With huge servings and a vast menu, I wasn't too disappointed to see that the prices have recently risen and I still find that I am getting value for money.
Being a vegetarian, I overindulged in spring rolls, samosas and Pad Thai which were all pleasing. The Pad Thai was perhaps too sweet for a traditional dish and after being in Thailand for a time, I wouldn't call the dishes 100% authentic. This said, they are delicious and at the end of the day that is what really matters!
The curries I am told are rather spicy (true to the cuisine), and there is a real mix of vegetarian, meat and seafood dishes. There are even a few that I'm sure the kids wouldn't turn their noses up at!
The real disappointment of the night would have to be the service. The restaurant was relatively empty (Wednesday night) and we felt rather rushed. We found ourselves having to flail around in an attempt to get some service and as the coffee machine was turned off, we couldn't indulge in an after dinner drink. We were also not offered a dessert menu and given the nature of the dinner (catching up with some old friends), the last thing we wanted was to be pushed out the door.
This said, I would recommend Sukhumvit to anyone in the area looking for an intimate setting with some tasty (slightly westernised) Thai food. Bring the kids along for the sweet Pad Thai and perhaps a curry for yourself and you've got a reasonably priced, tasty experience.
