Following the success of its markets in Brisbane and Surfers Paradise, the has expanded and announced that an inaugural Melbourne event will be held on Sunday, July 29th at the Thornbury Theatre in Northcote.

Joining an already strong Sunday market tradition, the is likely to become another well-loved event in this city, particularly as it's going to be a little different to the other markets we have seen.

The asks that stallholders sell their items from suitcases only. No trestles, benches, shelves or tents, just a quick and straightforward set-up that allows market traders, many who have never tried it before, to start selling without having to worry about establishing a commercial booth.

The market began with the particular philosophy that if stallholders could be given an easy, fuss-free way of entering the art, craft and second-hand goods scene, then these
emerging, cottage-industry entrepreneurs, would have the opportunity to simply have a go at selling their wares.& #8232 ;& #8232 ;& #8232 ;& #8232 ;

So, you're likely to find there all the gorgeous hand-printed, stitched and painted items that& #8232 ; have been trending of late. Quirky jewellery, homemade fashions, old books and knitted goods, that haven't appeared at other markets already. There will be live music by local artists there to entertain you as well.

& #8232 ;& #8232 ;Many of stallholders at the Suitcase Rummage advocate ethical and socially responsible practices. The crafters support the environment by selling quality vintage, repurposed and upcycled goods. The team from the support their traders in turn, by sharing profiles about them on their blog and Facebook pages , which are also full of market news, photos and updates.

The Thornbury Theatre itself, is an elegant venue in which to hold a market. It has purple velvet curtains, ornate gilded ceilings, marble staircases and carpeted floors. The added advantage of this market being held sensibly indoors, is that you will be kept snug, warm and safely away from the Melbourne rain.

**The is on from 11:00am - 4:00pm.
Entry is free.**
