Join the sugary celebrations for GOMA's 10th Birthday
Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) is turning TEN and everyone is invited to celebrate. The official tenth anniversary celebrations will revolve around a major free exhibition called Sugar Spin: You, me, art and everything. This contemporary exhibition will be filled with colour and wonder from all corners of the globe and will celebrate Queensland - Australia's sugar state.
Sugar Spin: You, me, art and everything Exhibition:
Some highlights of the Sugar Spin: You, me, art and everything exhibition will be the popular Carsten Holler's Left/Right Slide which will spiral visitors from the top of the gallery to the bottom. Also, Ron Mueck's oversized woman In Bed will bring a smile, as will Hrafnhildur Arnardottir's Nervescape - a giant multi-colored landscape of synthetic hair. These are just a few of the awe inspiring participatory exhibits that will delight all the senses.
The exhibition will take visitors through five different sugar-themed and slightly edgy chapters - sweet melt, white out, blackwater, soaring and cosmos. Throughout the weekend there will also be a series of vibrant cultural performances as well as unveilings of several new works of art to add to the GOMA collection.
GOMA Turns 10 Summer Festival:
The tenth anniversary celebrations will continue with the GOMA Turns 10 Summer Festival which will take place from 18/1/17 until 22/1/17. This festival will include artist talks, tours, creative workshops, storytelling and music. Be sure to check the GOMA website for festival updates.
