Nestled beneath the hustle and bustle of King Street, Subsolo is a warm and inviting Spanish Restaurant and Wine Bar. Self described as Barcelona meets New York, it is a description that matches the ambiance of the place perfectly. With a wide and over stocked bar on one end, complete with a range of cocktails and bar tapas, and curtained booths at the other, it is a perfect place for any occasion - from a quick post-work drink, pre-theatre dinner, intimate celebration, or a party!
We went with a crowd of 26 and had an absolutely brilliant time. Subsolo buzzes with just enough noise and energy to create an enjoyable atmosphere, while ensuring everyone can still hear each other. The service was excellent, food came quickly and wine glasses never stood empty.
Subsolo offers a Spanish/Portuguese inspired menu packed full of mouth watering dishes. We indulged in the five course degustation menu and found each and every element beautifully presented and spectacularly delicious. Despite drinking copious quantities of quite stunning Spanish red wine, the salt-cod croquettes and thick, moist prawns wrapped in a salty Jamon remain etched in my mind as particularly outstanding. The food was plentiful and when the fourth course - a Portuguese Espetada Grill dripping with rump, chicken and misto - arrived, I had barely any room for it. Whatever you do, save space for the Churros filled with dulce de leche and served with Spanish Chocolate Sauce & Honey Nougat Ice Cream.
