I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

A sandwich at a submarine not a submarine sandwich
The Submarine Cafe is hard to miss when travelling through Holbrook NSW, as it is located adjacent to the HMAS Otway. It is surprising how large the above waterline superstructure of an Oberon class submarine is when you get close to it. During our visit, we saw plenty of families clambering over it and the dads seemed to be enjoying it as much as the kids.

The menu provides plenty of tasty options for the whole family. Gourmet pies, toasted sandwiches and burgers as well as daily specials and a soup of the day are among the offerings. Children are well catered for with a $7 kids menu. The cafe caters for people with wheat and gluten allergies and our gluten-free orange cake was a delicious choice for morning tea.
One can sit in air-conditioned comfort or outside under shady umbrellas, where you have a close view of the main attraction. A short walk from the cafe is the interesting and informative Submarine Museum, as well as a scale model British B11 submarine.
There is plenty of free parking, clean amenities and friendly smiling staff. The Submarine Cafe offers special packages for tourism operators and coach tours, so the 100 seat cafe could become very busy at times.
