Studio Neon – the place of wonder.
From the outside this gallery owned by chef
Aaron Teece and Richard Robinson looks a little scary. My first thoughts were, that if I walk up those step where the sign 'Infinity' is hanging above, will I need to be prepared to flee?
Fear not! As you get to the second floor of the studio spaces, the gallery opens up into two open plan spaces. Firstly, the long rustic looking banquet table greets you, complete with a random assortment of stylish chairs and candelabras in the centre. On the back wall is an interesting art installation of old and new speakers with a neon sign glowing in the centre.
To the far left, is the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. This is where Aaron and Richard create their delicious feasts. Aaron has been a chef in Europe for years; he has even cooked for Kate Moss and the Queen before setting up his own commercial kitchen in Studio Neon. Richard on the other hand has had previous stints at
Momofuko Seibo and
Sean's .
On this particular occasion, I had treated my partner to a three course dinner with entertainment by the magician,
Liam Power .
Upon arrival, we went up to the bar and where offered a complimentary glass of wine or beer as well as a super cute striped paper cup filled with scrumptious parmesan popcorn, of which, we had two.
After relaxing on one of the many arm chairs/ sofas we were called to take a seat at the mighty table. This was a great time to get to know your fellow neighbours sitting in our vicinity. There were a range of guests, some from as far as Tamworth, who were down for the weekend.
To begin, Tofu-like Pumpkin was served with a goat's cheese puree, shaved cheese and pine nuts. This had our taste buds tingling. The proportions were well-sized and they also easily catered for my Celiac disease which was a bonus.
Starters led onto the first 30 minutes of Liam Power wowing the audience. His performance was mind-blowing. Just when you had some inkling into how he had managed to pull off the trick, he stepped up his game profoundly!
Our main was sword fish, cooked beautifully with a kind of chocolate, sauce that reminded me of Oysters Kilpatrick with a hint of Worcester sauce. This was followed by a further 30 minutes of spectacular performance from Liam who involved the whole table with his mind-reading tricks. We cheered as his final performance of the night came to an unpredictable end.
To finish off the evening, we were served an astonishing strawberry and rhubarb trifle with ginger crumble and ginger jelly. This is all of my favourite things all in one glass, and it tasted like heaven. Even thinking about it now, makes me want more!
My partner and I had a great Friday night out at Studio Neon, both the food and entertainment were top notch.
has events running fortnightly, so it is best to check out their website for updates.
Just a quick note: The three course dinner and magic show by Liam Power cost $110 each.
