A beautiful collision of colors, cultures, and camaraderie, Studio Flamenco's Recuerdos took us in the audience on a journey across Andalusia and ignited a strong desire in those of us who have never been to the beautiful and magical land of Spain!

Bringing together a seriously talented cast of 10 dancers and 4 musicians, Recuerdos was split into four prominent scenes, which displayed varying emotions, as they made their way through Rio Guadalaquivir, the Gulf of Cadiz, Sevilla, and Cordoba.

The moment the dancers walk onto the stage, they turned up the heat with their captivating foot-tapping, hip-shaking, and rhythm-syncing movements that complemented the eclectic singing and the moody ambience that was created by the light effects, the misty smoke, and the harmonious melodies played via guitar. We were also treated to a stunning performance by a trio of dancers, who celebrated being on the banks of a river, as they emanated a relaxing vibe and performed a fan dance that had slow and fast tempos, to accentuate the vibes of being by a waterfall. Members in the audience were left enthralled, as they jumped from a poignant and soulful scene to one that brought a sense of joy and happiness at being in a community setting, where a flamenco street party perked up the dancers and the audience equally to create a socially colourful atmosphere.

A particular highlight of the show was seeing a male dancer, who had a polished sense of poise, movement, and grandeur, which added to the versatility of this decorated cast (who were predominantly female-led), where members from all over the world were being included in what ended up being a fiesta party of the finest kind in this beautiful and inviting venue at Nexus Arts.

It's one of those shows where you won't be able to look away, as the dancers take charge of the stage and present audiences with a fantastic representation of the vibrancy that makes the Spanish culture as attractive as it makes it a stand-out. There were lots of frills, lots of powerful facial expressions, and lots of delicate moments that will enhance the overall experience of being transported to the streets of Spain for a fiesta party, where the individuality of each cast member shines throughout the solo and group-based segments of the show.

Dancing to the rhythm of a culture that brings justice to the term "expressive movement", with its beautiful blend of hand clapping, percussive foot stomping, and intricate hand, arm, and body movements, the audience were cycled through a range of emotions in a single segment, which would be reflected based on the changes around the style of music, the beat and the rhythm, and the progression of narrative through song to truly make the audience feel like they were immersed in another culture in a wholesome manner. By getting a taste of their traditional dancing, their native roots, and their iconic personalities through the power of world dance, audiences felt a sense of mystical magic that the cast from Studio Flamenco's Recuerdos was able to resonate so beautifully through their performance. This is a high-class performance of world dance that was spectacular and bursting with energy, so much so that it will almost instantly make you want to plan your travels to the streets of Spain ASAP.
