It's no secret that the Southern end of Oxford St has been where the action is at. However, brave the northern stretch of Oxford Street where tumbleweed has been known to blow, and your curiosity will be well rewarded. For nestled amidst the bridal stores, you will stumble on an independent studio-shop of delightful designery goodness known as . Within lies a licorice all-sorts of unique art wares, stationery, and designer knick-knacks made by clever, creative folk from near and far.

Lovely lasses Leah and Angela are the creative minds behind . "Being in Perth as designer-makers – people who want to design and make our own product – it can be really tricky to find avenues to sell products that are not mass produced," says Leah. "We wanted to be able to create that, and the shop seemed like a natural extension because we could shine a light on people like us from around the world."



A lot of 's products have a handcrafted element to them, a hint back to yesterday but with a contemporary design. "We're really lucky with the internet, because we can source really good products from designer-makers who love what they're doing, and bring them here to Perth – and give Perth designers a place where they can sell to their local community," says Leah.

The beautiful international pieces stocked include handprinted biscuit-y cushions from Scottish designer Nikki McWilliams, one-off ceramics from Stockholm-based illustrator JeezVanilla, handprinted artworks by Little Friends of Printmaking, and Helveticus' bags made from vintage Swiss Army blankets.

Local designers who feature include those in-house, as is also the work space for a hothouse of creatives who work the other side of a stripy curtain. Behind the curtain also lies 'Herbie', a 1905 Chandler & Price letterpress that inspired 's creation of their pretty paperware line, Mitchell and Dent , that adorns the shop's walls.

Because the Bomba crew are really big on learning new stuff, they also run 'Mad Skills for Curious Cats' workshops in the store. Most recently, they held 'I Heart Knitting' and 'Blooming Lovely Paper Pose' workshops. "When we do the classes we like to make sure that people are creating something that they can't make anywhere else," says Leah. "People love the idea that they're knitting something straight away that they can use or give as a gift."
