New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.

New owners, same quaint old school charm
Stripey Sundae is located in Gold Creek Village in the suburb of Nicholls, 12km's north of the city. Gold Creek Village is a popular tourist attractions for all ages with Cockington Green Gardens, the National Dinosaur Museum, Canberra Reptile Zoo and Canberra Walk-In Aviary in the same complex. There are also quaint shops to explore as well as cafes and restaurants located in beautiful historical buildings. After exploring the area, why not stop by Stripey Sundae Icecream Parlour - a cute little spot to rest the feet and relax with an icecream or coffee.
There are a few tables outside on the deck area and also several inside. Stripey Sundae is just simply "cute". As you walk in there are quaint white tables and chairs, icecream prints on the walls, fluffy white pendent lights and a Kids Corner that had been set up the morning we visited by the new owners. The new owners took over the parlour in December, 2015 and have kept the quaint, old school charm and added their own little touches to the welcoming interior.
The new owners no longer stock Fruggii ice cream (as Fruggii now have their own store in Braddon), however they have a wide selection of delicious varieties to choose from. There are two freezers of ice cream flavours, a few sorbets for dairy-free options and they also make milkshakes, spiders, thickshakes and coffee (at the time of writing).
On our visit on a hot Summer's morning my daughter and I chose the kids size raspberry sorbet ($3 with half scoop) and mango and passionfruit sorbet ($5) in waffle cones - both sweet, refreshing and devoured quickly.
Whilst there, I chatted to one of the friendly owners who said they hope to be a year-round destination for ice cream as well as hot drinks in Winter. There are a couple of comfy couches in front of a gas heater which would be a cosy spot for a hot drink on a cold winters day.
If you have young kids, there is also a small, unshaded playground across the road in the shopping square next to Adore Tea to have a quick play before the drive home. For an article on what else to do at Gold Creek, see here .
Little playground with the Walk-In Bird Aviary behind.
My daughter and I enjoyed our visit to Stripey Sundae - it was a the ideal way to cool down after a morning at Gold Creek Village. The Kids Corner kept my daughter busy while I could finish my own ice cream - which is always a bonus for any parent. I can see that Stripey Sundae will be a place that we will return to all year around for a "special treat" (for both of us!) at Gold Creek Village.
