I remember watching the DVD of Moulin Rouge for the first time and shedding a tear or two at the end. I was visiting my brother who lived in Sydney at the time and we all sat on the floor of his unfurnished house watching this film, while his cat was jumping from benches to window sills to cupboards. It's funny how we remember the things we do. But that's how I first came to notice Baz Luhrmann.

Mr Baz is an Australian film director, screenwriter and producer. He moved into film after his theatrical successes and has directed five films to date. Among them, there's one that's inspired the world to dance, and that's Strictly Ballroom, which is coming to you in a brand new theatrical production live on stage at the Sydney Lyric from Tuesday 25 March to Sunday 1 June 2014.

is an all-singing, all-dancing, live stage musical which will tango, sashay and bogo pogo to the max delighting audiences all the way to the top. It will feature the much-loved music from the original film such as Love is in the Air, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps, and Time After Time, in addition to new compositions.

This inspirational and moving musical tells the story of a champion calibre ballroom dancer who truly believes in dancing his own steps and disregards all the rules to follow his heart.

In addition to a talented cast, this production also features the creative team behind the original 1992 film, including Baz Luhrmann (director and co-writer), John 'Cha Cha' O'Connell (choreographer), Catherine Martin (set and costume designer), and Craig Pearce (co-writer). This uplifting show will bring the iconic story to life guaranteed to be full of drama, humour and romance and definitely will dance into your hearts.
