'Streets of Melbourne' is the current temporary exhibition at the Old Treasury Building.

This exhibition showcases the fascinating history of Melbourne City through never before seen records from the Public Record Office Victoria collection including, Hoddle's original plan of Melbourne, early maps, rare field books and letters.
Through these historical documents, Melburnians are afforded the unique opportunity to learn about the city's explorers, its colonial origins, founding fathers and past significant events.

Central to the exhibition is an exploration of Melbourne's rectangular grid design. This design has stood the test of time and little has changed since its conception in 1837 by Robert Hoddle.

Flinders, Collins, LaTrobe, Spring, Russell and other Melbourne streets and lanes are all showcased.

Exhibition curator Kate Luciano said "Much of Melbourne's past is reflected in the street names we see every day, but don't think about. This exhibition brings the stories of Melbourne's streets alive to the public."

The 'Streets of Melbourne' exhibition is free to view and is open Sunday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.

The exhibition will close in May 2014.
