Street of Asia is a Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian restaurant in the Tuggeranong Town Centre, 20 minutes south of the CBD. It is situated outside the
Tuggeranong Hyperdome shopping centre, with a large, carved wooden door marking its entrance. Their variety of cultural dishes on the menu is extensive, with over 100 choices to choose from. This popular restaurant is open for lunch between 11am - 3pm Monday to Saturday and is particularly popular during the week with local workers, happily enjoying an affordable lunchtime meal or takeaway.
On our visit for a weekend lunch, we watched as platters piled high with colourful vegetables, stringy noodles and hot pots of tasty soups were delivered to each table. All you could hear throughout the quiet restaurant was the
click clack of busy chopsticks, as diners made their way through the large servings put before them.
Street of Asia is also a popular restaurant with families, with plenty of high chairs available for the young ones. Although there weren't any meals on the menu specifically for children, we chose the
Stir Fried Noodles in sweet soy sauce with chicken ($14.50), which was the perfect choice for the kids on our table with its mild flavour and plenty of noodles to suck up - as kids love to do.
As we were hungry ourselves, we were impressed by how fast the meals came out to tables around the restaurant. We ordered the
Combination Laksa ($15.50) with BBQ Pork, Chicken, Prawns and Tofu, which came out with a separate plate for bean shoots and lemon to add to our taste. The result had us in raptures as our taste buds woke up with enough curry heat to be tasty - but not too hot. If you love Laksa in particular, also check out
Asian Noodle House a short walk up the road and see which is your favourite. Both are definitely worth trying - the Asian Noodle House Laksa has a unique and beautiful taste, whereas Street of Asia's is tasty with more ingredients inside the bowl - see which one you prefer!
This restaurant is also open for dinner between 5pm - 9pm, Monday to Saturday. It is a handy location to sit down for a casual dinner before watching a movie upstairs at
Limelight Cinemas . If you decide to take your own wine to enjoy with dinner, it is BYO and only $1 corkage per person. With a large bottle shop around the corner, a sweet white wine would be an ideal accompaniment to the spicy dishes on offer. If you still have room for dessert, they also have deep fried ice cream and banana dessert on the menu -
yum for all ages. See the full menu
here .
So why not take a walk to Street of Asia and send your taste buds on a journey to a different country, culture and experience. Be warned - after tasting the flavours like this below, they may not want to come back!
