Melbourne prides itself as the art and cultural capital of Australia, notorious for its edgy street art scattered throughout the city.

Most visitors to Victoria's capital city like to explore its many laneways by foot, either stumbling upon Melbourne's iconic post-graffiti art unexpectedly or purposely visiting key street art landmarks in the CBD.

Should you wish to get your teeth into the heart of Melbourne's street art scene, a tour would be the way to go.

Melbourne Street Art Tours is the first and only street art tour in Australia that is run by street artists, a tour that explores the significant role that artists have made in making Melbourne one of the most important destinations for street art in the world.

Tours begin at a meeting point in Federation Square, as you will meet your group (between 3 - 12 participants) and one of the artist guides affiliated with Melbourne Street Art Tours before heading off on a journey to explore the city's urban jungle.

Your guide will unfold hidden treasures that self guided tours fail to discover, getting into the soul of the city's art scene with an emphasis on the artists behind the work.

As you are taken to significant Melbourne streets as well as hidden laneways and arcades, you will discover some of the most interesting street art in the world as you immerse yourself into its transient culture, with new artworks popping up regularly.

Guides not only uncover who the multicultural artists of Melbourne's street art are, but also what technical aspects are involved with spray painting, stencil art, paste-ups, sculptures and more. Looking at the social and political aspect of the city's urban art, guides also reveal the expressive political statements artists make in their work. You might even be lucky enough to spot one of the few Banksy originals left in Melbourne.

Taking it one final step further, all our tours end at the famous Blender Studios , where you will get the unique opportunity to explore both the studios and the gallery (Dark Horse Experiment) by director Adrian Doyle.

It is here you will get to meet practising street and fine artists in action, gaining a unique 'behind-the-scene' insight into the world of urban street art. Meet and chat with artists over a cold beer, a glass of wine or a soft drink and nibbles as your tour wraps up and you go home with an appreciation for the efforts of the beautiful artwork seen on our streets.

Melbourne Street Art Tours run on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons and run for approximately 3 hours, with 2 ½ walking time and ½ hour studio tour. The cost of a tour is $69pp which includes beer or wine (or non-alcohol drink), cheese platter, and gift bag.
